The sellers: Mona Kumar, a 39-year-old lawyer at the security company Securitas, and Oneal Banerjee, a 42-year-old lawyer at the firm Lofranco Corriero.

The property: A detached home near Bathurst and Wilson with three bedrooms and a basement nanny suite.

The story: Kumar and Banerjee bought the house for $815,000 in 2010, upsizing from a three-bedroom semi near Lawrence and Avenue Road. Their daughter Priyanka was just a toddler at the time, but they anticipated they’d eventually need the extra space. They were right. A few years on, they had a second kid (Arya, now two) and had hired a live-in nanny. The couple found themselves itching for extra square footage—particularly a large office where they could both work from home on occasion. Last June, they bought a five-bedroom house in Mississauga for just over $1 million and put the North York property on the market.

The prep: Suzy Goldstein, the couple’s realtor, advised them to send all their kid-friendly furniture to storage and stage the place with stylishly neutral furnishings, like snowy white sofas and delicate glass coffee tables.

The offer: An hour and a half after listing the house, Banerjee and Kumar received a bully offer of $1.1 million, $151,000 over asking. They talked it over for an hour and decided to go for it—with two young kids running around, they couldn’t imagine keeping the white slipcovers clean for much longer. The sale closed in August, and the family moved into their new home the same day.
